Counselling and Psychotherapy for individuals in a safe, comfortable and private setting

Welcome, and thank you for visiting.

I am a UKCP accredited psychotherapist and clinical supervisor working in the Derby area. I have over 30 years experience working within Forensic and Mental Health Services both within the public and voluntary sector including Civil Service and the NHS. I hold an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy however I have extensive CPD training, which I integrate within my practice including Hypnotherapy, EMDR, Breathwork and in more recent years with the expansion in neuroscience research I have trained in Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM).

As a result of my own CRM sessions I have been able to make Mind, Body and spiritual connections, healing many historic wounds including generational trauma, as a result I have become more interested in the mind & body and connections to illness. I have recently completed a psychedelic practitioners programme with the British Transpersonal Association and offer psychedelic integration.

My Approach

I am a 'down to earth' holistic psychotherapist who offers a safe place to explore without judgement.

I have an extensive wealth of experience and have kept myself ahead via continual professional development so that I can offer you a more 'bespoked' service that doesn't require endless 'tickbox' questionaires prior to each session.

"Psychotherapy can be one of the greatest and most rewarding adventures, it can bring with it the deepest feelings of personal worth, of purpose and richness of living" (Eda Leshan)

Services I Offer

EMDR

(Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences (PTSD) EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. The brain’s information processing system naturally moves towards mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. Using the detailed protocols and procedures of EMDR, the therapist can help clients activate their natural healing processes. (www.emdr-europe.org)

"The past affects the present even without our being aware of it” (Francine Shapiro)

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a type of mind-body intervention in which uses eight sequential stages, i.e., preparing for, induction, deepening, therapeutic utilisation, ego strengthening, hypnotic suggestions, self-hypnosis, and termination of session. It allows for increased concentration and focus and can facilitate therapeutic change, helping with behaviours. Hypnotherapy can be an effective way to cope with addictions like smoking, stress, anxiety, phobias and fears, pain control. In a therapeutic setting the therapist will guide you into a focused state of concentration, once in an altered state they will suggest visualisations related to your goal for therapy and guide you back to a normal state of consciousness at the end of the session. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis i.e., no hypnotist can make you do anything you don’t want to do. (www.hypnotherapists.org.uk)

"Trust your unconscious, it knows more than you do” (Milton Erickson)

CRM

CRM (The Comprehensive Resource Model) is an innovative and holistic therapeutic approach to help clients re-process and release the effects of traumatic events which they have experienced. CRM helps to build a neurological scaffolding of resources in the mid-brain, limbic system, and neocortex While using CRM techniques a therapist helps their client learn a variety of empowering internal resources, used in a concentric sequence or as part of the processing itself. These help to, ‘build a neurological scaffolding of resources in the mid-brain, limbic system, and neocortex’. Issues or events (or the ‘parts’ inside us which hold the trauma) are invited into the Grid, which incorporates a wide range of tailored breathing skills, somatic embodiment skills, attachment neurobiology and spiritual resourcing to achieve its aims. These containment frameworks allow the client to feel sufficiently safe to remain in a high level of consciousness during the re-processing of their trauma and so avoid re-traumatisation or the need to dissociate, as can happen without a safety system such as this in place; the processing of the trauma is helped using bilateral sounds listened through earphones. One of the strengths of CRM is that it integrates seamlessly with many of the other psychotherapeutic models, which we use as part of our treatment processes such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR, Ego-state therapy, transpersonal psychotherapy, and CBT. “We stumble at times, yet in the ability to regain our footing, true heroes are made” (Maria Teresa Pratico)

Breathwork (consciousness connected)

Our bodies hold the key i.e., every cell in our body has memory our DNA holds the memory of our ancestors; however, we live in a world which supports the disconnection from all this wisdom; a ‘splitting process’. Everybody has this amazing “inner intelligence” that, among other things, manipulates our 37 trillion body cells simultaneously at every moment without taking a break and consequently we have become ‘human doings’ instead of ‘human beings’ Through the breath you can reconnect i.e. In the same way your body can heal a physical wound, your psyche can let go of or reframe your past and release you to be self- empowered. Energetic blocks can be released, emotional issues can be resolved, personal power and creativity can be restored and enhanced. You just have to breathe deeply to music to let the ‘chitter chatter’ / ‘monkey’ mind get out of the way and let this inner healing power bring up what is ready to be released and not try and block it. It is about trust and surrender, but not to anybody else but to yourself, a home coming to your true essential self. Breathwork is a powerful tool for emotional and nervous system regulation, self-discovery, and healing and one of the main interventions in body psychotherapy. (www.ibfbreathwork.org)

“Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts” (Thich Nhat Hanh)
